For as long as I can remember, I have been the biggest fan of Celine Dion. So much so that when I was a teenager, I wrote to The Oprah Winfrey show asking to come on her show to meet Celine Dion. Sadly, I was denied. But regardless of that outcome, my love for her never wavered. I even have had vivid dreams of me meeting her. 🥰
I don’t know why I was such a huge fan. I think maybe to me, she just seemed like a genuine human being. Even with all the fame she had. I’d watch her in interviews, meeting with her fans. She just exuded pure genuineness. You could see how much her fans meant to her. I saw kindness.Â
When I was in high school (I can’t remember what the class was) we had to pick a song by an artist we loved. I think we had to talk or tell about them. Of course I picked Celine. The song I chose was Treat Her Like a Lady.Â
I wanted to see Celine in concert so badly. At the time she had her residency in Las Vegas at Ceasar’s Palace. I don’t know if it was for one of my birthdays or a different occasion. Or just simply for fun, but my mom surprised me with tickets to see her in Vegas! It was probably the GREATEST concert I had ever been to. I think I sat there during the entire show just in awe. I knew literally every word to every song she performed. Then one year in high school, the radio station KIISFM came to our school. They were having a dance contest. The prize was 2 tickets to Wango Tango which is the concert that KISSFM puts on. Various artists perform. Each year is a different lineup. This particular year Celine was going to be there. I KNEW I had to get those tickets. Unfortunately I didn’t win the contest. Did that stop me?? Heck no. I was determined to go to see her. So I took a chance by calling into the radio station, and speaking to someone there. I told them I was a huge fan of Celine. That I’d love to get tickets to Wango Tango etc. Guess what? I GOT TICKETS TO Wango Tango!! Now it was just a matter of finding someone who’d be willing to take me. 🤯😃 I was really close with a teachers aide that worked in one of my classes. She saw how bummed I was that I didn’t win the tickets. When I told her I was going to call into the radio station and ask for tickets, she thought I was nuts. I know she was thinking "there’s no way they are just going to give me tickets." When I told her I had gotten them she was so surprised. 😂😂 I asked if she’d take me. After giving it some thought…and needing to get the OK from her boss, she agreed. We both had such a blast. Our seats were decent but we got lucky when one of the security people who was near our section saw how much fun I was having. They offered us the chance to get better seats. So we got to be a lot closer.Â
While I haven’t been able to see Celine live again since then I’ve 4 remained being a huge fan. Still love her music. Still know every word.Â
I saw the video she released about her condition. I was so sad for her. Then I saw that she was doing this documentary. Naturally I had to watch. Ohh my gosh it was heartbreaking. You can see the toll it’s taken on her. She of course looks so very different. It’s sad to see how much she’s hurting. There was a scene in the doc where it shows what a spasm/seizure looks like. It was devastating to watch how her face distorts. The way she’s crying in pain. The helplessness/loss of control over her own body. Man it was so sad to see that she’s not the same person we all know/knew her by.Â
Watching this though made me love her more. I hope she can fight her way back to doing what she loves. 💕🥰 But I’ll always be a Celine Dion fan.
